One of the reasons I’m a photographer it that I like to tell stories with pictures.
Were you able to “read” this story?
Brett called me the night before an art college project was due,
he had a new idea and wanted to know if I had time to meet early the next morning.
Someone was praying, because this “styled shoot” fell together seamlessly.
He had the suit, I had the briefcase and location,
God provided the wet pavement and leaden skies…
even a grey Porsche parked outside the building.

  • “May God wonderfully bless your week and all who are important to you.
May He be your strength when you feel weak and fill you with grace and hope.
And may you know His magnificent love this week as never before.”

Last Friday walking in the hills above Laguna, I had an “eternal instant” when I saw this scene…
it’s that fleeting moment when I am aware of God’s presence
or see His glory in Creation
and I’m filled with a sense of wonder, delight or praise.
Can you remember a recent eternal instant in your life?

  • Windswept

It had rained all day, and then the storm was gone.
Spence was cooking dinner while I worked at my desk…
but my eyes kept being drawn to the window and the huge clouds moving by.
The sun would set soon, once again I grabbed my camera and I was out the door.

I drove up to Alta Laguna for the best cloud views.
The wind was intense and surprising cold yet exhilarating.

Looking off to the east and Wood’s Canyon
after climbing up a ridge of wet sandstone

Looking west into Canyon Acres, buffeted by gusts of wind,
I’m happy to see the  late winter rains are greening up the dry hills.
Then as the sun dipped beneath the clouds I turned around…

Oh God!  How glorious is Your creation!
Who are we that You are mindful of us
and give us such intense moments of wonder!

    I know…
    we are Your children.

A late winter storm blew into Southern California
with steady rain and gusting winds…

a good day to stay at home, editing photos while sipping hot tea.
Yet the rhythmic pattern of rain on the roof,
drew my eyes to the window and out of the chair to find my camera.

Such delicate charm found in rain drops and a spring iris.

    A sudden down pour,
overwhelmed the cutters and poured down the windows…

    creating marvelous, abstract images.

The thunderstorm moved on, the soft rain returned,
and the iris stood stately and strong.

Today is my birthday, I’m 56 years old.
I feel like this wisteria, somewhat messy and bedraggled,
yet beautiful and alive with hope.

    More blessings to share:

    24. This is the first birthday in YEARS that I actually weigh less and not more.
I’m so grateful for the 24 lbs I’ve lost so far with God’s help.

    25. NOTHING tastes as good
as being able to HEAR God feels!

    26. Healthy food is awesome!
How rich I am to be able to eat fresh asparagus,
ripe blueberries and sauteed turkey cutlets.
To open a can of tuna, then toss it with a crisp apple and celery.
AND oatmeal  tastes better that a cookie
and pineapple Greek yogurt is my favorite dessert!

    27. I love working out at the gym;
running on the elliptical, lifting weights, breathing into deep stretches.
Being as strong as I can be at this age
so I can continue to pursue my passion for photography.

    28. I’m so blessed by the fellowship God has given me
at our Little Church by the Sea.
I can’t begin to explain the love I have for so many people,
the honor of praying for them, being encouraged by those young and old,
delighting in their company, worshiping together,
learning and working together…they are family.

    29. Thank you for this day Lord
and for the eyes and heart to hope in all things.

  • walking the beach at El Moro,
a crisp, spring morning warmed by the sun rising
    over the greening, coastal hills.

breathing in salt air that seems to opens the senses,
the constant, rhythm of the sea my companion.
nodding to the few surfers…they feel it too.

  • Marvelous March
a few of my favorite moments

My favorite capture during Levi’s 2 year old portrait session~
    Sliding with daddy.

Nice, fully edited, head-shot of Maurice on the left.
then I asked him to think of his wife and son and got this great smile.

Down at the Sawdust Art Festival, the open air studio now has temporary walls
to keep out the wind during winter art classes. As the Sawdust Facebook administrator
I’m always looking for “news” to post year round.

Love this candid portrait of musician Jason Freddy
getting ready for a benefit concert

    Gavin, Marla and Georgette
(thank goodness for the white tent to bounce my flash off too)

6:30 am The full moon setting into the haze as the sun rose behind me

Hanging out at the pool with the gang…at the Marine Mammal Center.
And loving the comparison of a vintage jeep against my big Bronco.

Drawn to the beach an hour before sunset…

I never know what delight may be waiting.

Spring flowers are blooming all over Laguna

Assisting my dear friend Matt Saville…
as a Laguna local I know the out-of-the-way spots.

    Tree Blossom

My part-time nanny work is also my ministry. Such a blessing.
We took this picture so Rachel’s mommy could see the 100 piece puzzle she finished.
