“Without thinking too much about it in specific terms,
I was showing the America I knew and observed
to others who might not have noticed. My fundamental purpose is to interpret the typical American.
I am a story teller.“
~Norman RockwellWhen I was in college, majoring in Fine Art, my professor told me my art was too pretty. He spent two years taking me to artist’s studios, exposing me to a variety of mediums. I watched films and read books, I tried hard to “express” myself with abstract mono prints. Yet all along, my passion was always for Color and Light.I graduated with my Art degree, then took a stained glass class for fun and FELL IN LOVE. I had found my medium, rich with color and light. I begged a glass studio to take me on as an apprentice, where for two years I learned my new craft and eventually taught classes.
When I returned to my hometown of Laguna Beach, my parents let me set up a studio in their garage and loaned me $3,000 (when I got into the Sawdust Art Festival with a low lottery number ) to buy supplies and build a booth. Guess what I designed? Pretty things! Flowers and birds, hearts and stars, dolphins and sea shells. For twenty-eight years I was true to my love for the simple things in life, the things we tend to take for granted, the things God created. AND people liked my art! They bought my “pretty” art glass and put it in their homes, and then came back for more.
Now, I have a new medium to explore my passion for color and light…and I take Pretty Pictures. I want to remind people what is still good, and pure, and lovely. That there is hope and joy yet in this dark world.

We so much need to see the beauty in life. Keep up the good work. Sometime show us a picture of some of your stained glass.
@pettybunch - @snogerfergany - @cerwindoris - @ata_grandma - And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For we do not proclaim ourselves; we proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and ourselves as your slaves for Jesus’ sake. For it is the God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 4:3-6
There is wild joy in this photo. I just love it. Love your work and you too! Glad you “listened” to your passion, and what God put in you.
A wonderful photo, Mary — and a wonderful passion for light and color!
